How to Get V

Now, V is available via our web page for free.
The following files are available: While V is only supported on the SUN and SGI workstations, the code has been written for compilation with Gnu C and Gnu FORTRAN, which are known to run on IBM, HP, VAX, DEC, CRAY, CONVEX, and other machines. Gnu C and Gnu Fortran can be obtained via anonymous ftp to prep.ai.mit.edu. or uiarchive.cso.uiuc.edu.

To display plots, images, and movies, V calls public domain software which runs under the X windows operating system. For image and plot display, John Bradley's popular xv program, available via anonymous FTP to ftp.upenn.edu, is used. Time sequences are displayed using the MPEG standard. The programs mpeg_play and mpeg_encode required for movie animation can be obtained via anonymous FTP to ftp.cs.berkeley.edu
A library of source code, manuals, and other developmental information is maintained at the V FTP site. Researchers are encouraged to use this address to deposit any useful algorithms developed for V for easy release to other research groups.

Questions and inquiries regarding V are welcome and should be addressed to v@v.beckman.uiuc.edu.
